Known limitations

  • Updates are package-level only. New Arkyn defaults reach existing installs only through a newer ISO, until an Arkyn package repository exists.
  • Limited hardware tested. QEMU (UEFI with Secure Boot, UEFI, BIOS) and one ThinkPad L14 Gen 2 with a Pixel on GrapheneOS. NVIDIA/AMD graphics, other Wi-Fi chipsets and docks are untested.
  • Fingerprint unlocks login and sudo only. The disk passphrase and the first keyring unlock still need your password.
  • Phone → laptop clipboard needs a tap, because Android blocks background clipboard reads. Laptop → phone is automatic.
  • “Sov” is a name, not a fork. Window titles and text inside COSMIC apps still say COSMIC, and the login screen lists both “Sov” and “COSMIC” sessions.
  • The COSMIC desktop comes from an unofficial package archive and updates automatically. A bad upstream build could reach machines unattended.
  • Screen-off and suspend are off by default. Set them in Sov Settings › Power if you want them on battery.
  • Live session: the live user and hostname are arkyn, and the live session relaxes AppArmor’s user-namespace restriction (as Ubuntu’s own ISO does); the installed system doesn’t.
